Design Theory

Our studio is a tight-knit team of interior specialists, working closely with clients and collaborators. We see our role as Translators - listening and learning to understand, to then render human and environmental insights into distinctive and responsive design. Guided by design-theory, and our knowledge of form and function, the response for each project is tailored specifically to communicate each project’s unique story and create cohesive, immersive spaces. Our practice respects and look to enrich Australian cultural landscape, and acknowledges the Noongar people as the Traditional Owners of Whadjuk Booja, the land where we work.

Project: City Beach Residence

Inch by inch this quintessentially Western Australian home, designed by Duncan, Stephen & Mercer in the early 1960’s, has been brought back to life. With design cues taken from the home’s original design, a time of humble, honest materials and detailing, the design team sought to weave together the preservation of this special home’s soul with new sustainability and technological features, to insure its future heritage. Key to the success was a holistic vision, with our studio responsible for all aspects from restoring original architectural features, modifying the floor plan and designing all new interiors through to furniture curation.
