Studio Gestalt
As the Director of Studio Gestalt, and with more than a decade of experience providing design and decoration services in the residential, commercial and hospitality sectors, both within Australia and internationally. I always endeavour to work closely with my clients to ensure their space realise its true potential and meets their unique needs. Working on new builds, renovation, and commercial premises, I strive to achieve harmony and balance within any space, using innovative, functional and aesthetic solutions. My approach is professional yet personal, which I believe adds value to each project, while also making the project experience itself enjoyable, seamless and stress-free for the client. I have a sound knowledge base and a finger on the pulse of global trends, and have spent many years nurturing my ability to translate client’s ideas into hardworking spaces which inspire and excite. At the core of my philosophy is a commitment to human connection, and I pride myself on creating unique, engaging spaces which not only make a positive contribution to their physical location but also enhance the lives of those living and working within them.

Studio aem
My business and design philosophies have been driven by my experiences living in rural towns in Australia, and spending time in Sri Lanka as a child. Constantly adapting to new cultures, lifestyles, and home designs ignited my interest in interior design, and how it can be used to enhance our enjoyment of the world around us. My designs incorporate well-crafted ethical, durable, and humanely-sourced products, to maximise aesthetic impact while minimising the harm caused to people, animals, and our planet. I support small-scale operators, manufacturers, and local artisans wherever possible, because I strongly believe that small, family businesses are the lifeblood of our economy. My designs are always human-centred, incorporating allergy-friendly and low-maintenance pieces where required by the homeowners. I frequently collaborate with other designers and architects, drawing on our unique backgrounds and skills to deliver outstanding results that meet the clients’ requirements.

About the Project

Set on a large site in Mosman, this four-story home was remodelled and updated. Despite being extensively renovated 7 years prior the home was looking tired, particularly with the finishes and materials were showing a lot of age and damage. Our key goals were to retain all salvageable materials and surfaces in order to prevent unnecessary wastage whilst repairing and making good wherever possible. The intention was to remove the heavy atmosphere, and create a relaxing, harmonious space. We strove to balance the mix of re􀂦ned and raw textures and materials. Whilst the architecture was effective, it lacked materiality and warmth. We balanced the clean lines and well-proportioned joinery with finishes and furniture full of soft curves, to soften the hard lines. The focus and drive were toward an appreciation for ethical, well curated design. Introducing products that are highly regarded, well sourced and well made, in order to curb the single use, throw away attitude. Diversity was important due to cultural requirements and considerations. A Zen garden was introduced to respect the homage and heritage of the clients. There was a great deal of consideration in the implementation of the fusion of the traditionally styled home, the contemporary layer that was added whist melding these elements with the oriental zen garden.
