President’s Award:

Monash University Design Health Collab

The Design Institute of Australia is proud to present the President's Award to the Monash Design Health Collab, a team that truly embodies the transformative power of design in healthcare. This multidisciplinary group consistently demonstrates a deep commitment to human-centered design, tackling complex challenges with creativity, empathy, and rigor.

The Collab's work transcends traditional design boundaries, encompassing product design, service design, user experience, and even design advocacy. Their diverse range of methods, including ethnographic studies, co-creation workshops, and rapid prototyping, allows them to address healthcare needs at multiple scales, from individual patient experiences to systemic issues within the healthcare sector.

As evidenced by their award-winning Micro-X Head CT Scanner project, the Collab excels at bringing together diverse stakeholders – clinicians, paramedics, engineers, and patients – to co-create impactful solutions. This collaborative approach ensures that their designs are not only innovative but also address real-world needs with a focus on accessibility and equity. By championing design as a catalyst for positive change within healthcare, the Monash Design Health Collab sets a shining example for the entire design community.
