PLACE Category Winner:
mili mili for Footprints on Gadigal Nura
mili mili collective's "Footprints on Gadigal Nura" is a powerful testament to the importance of placemaking rooted in First Nations knowledge and community engagement. The project excels in its deep understanding of the site's history and its commitment to co-creation with the Gadigal people. The jury was particularly moved by the “Country+Community" process which ensured that the final design authentically reflects the Aboriginal narrative and lived experience. The three distinct installations, each developed with a different segment of the community, create a cohesive and multi-layered experience that invites visitors to connect with the site on a deeper level. By weaving together past, present, and future, "Footprints on Gadigal Nura" transforms Waterloo Station into a truly welcoming and culturally significant space. This project sets a new standard for public design that celebrates Indigenous heritage and fosters inclusivity.
