Cox Architecture in collaboration with H&E Architects for The Charles Grand Brasserie & Bar

Cox Architecture (COX) is a design-focused contemporary architectural practice with Studios located in every major Australian city. Our design ethos underpins every project. Key to our ethos is enhancing the public life of our cities. We endeavour to do this by ensuring every project makes a positive contribution to its public realm – that it gives more than it takes.

About the Project

Informed by the conceptual narrative of ‘Future Nostalgia,’ the design of The Charles Grand Brasserie & Bar takes cues from the building’s rich heritage, reimagined through a contemporary lens. Sitting within an imposing and finely executed Art Deco building. The interior evokes a sense of glamour, a homage to the Interwar Period when dining in the city was a rare occasion. The design approach explores the tension and juxtaposition of a modern insertion within a heritage framework. The process was iterative, testing new layers against existing with the objective to allow the heritage features to be the hero.
