Award of Merit:

Cox Architecture for 70 George Street, Cox Sydney Studio

Cox Architecture (COX) is a design-focused contemporary architectural practice with Studios located in every major Australian city. Our design ethos underpins every project. Key to our ethos is enhancing the public life of our cities. We endeavour to do this by ensuring every project makes a positive contribution to its public realm – that it gives more than it takes.

About the Project

Sustainability, collaboration and conservation were defined as project pillars for 70 George Street. We endeavoured to design a space that could adapt to change, suiting both the way we work now and how we work in the future. Doing more with less, balancing the poetic with pragmatic. Our selection of materials was curated to reduce the projects embodied energy. Workstation frames were retained, fitted with recycled worktops. Vintage furniture and pendants were sourced alongside locally crafted FSC certified timber tables. Doors and joinery designed as fully demountable pieces, clamped in place to existing structure to allow a full reuse of all components.
