■ Abdullah M I Syed
Lives and works between Gadigal Country (Sydney, Australia), and Karachi, Pakistan Dr. Abdullah M.I. Syed is an interdisciplinary artist, designer and a scholar. Syed art and design practice advocates for diversity of languages and cultural expressions. His cross-cultural studio practice and scholarly interest preserves heritage craft skills, sacred knowledge, Islamic art and architecture, the Bauhaus, and material culture history. Syed has earned a PhD in Art, Media and Design (2015) and an MFA (2009) from the University of New South Wales, Sydney. He also holds a BA in Graphic Design and 3D Arts (1999) and MEd (2001) from the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), Oklahoma, USA. He coordinated the Department of Design at Karachi University, Pakistan and has lectured at UCO (2000-2003) and the UNSW Art and Design (formerly COFA, 2009-2012). Syed has also contributed reviews and research articles to Garland Magazine, Imprint Australia, Southerly, and TAASA Review.
